Fun Family Health Expo Planned this Month

Fun, interactive activities for parents and children will be available at a free Family Health Expo hosted by Project Self-Sufficiency on Thursday, April 27th, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Representatives from local health organizations will be on hand to discuss resources for the health and well-being of children and families, and presentations will be offered about adverse childhood experiences, child abuse prevention, the stages of appropriate childhood development, breast health, and positive parenting techniques. Blood pressure checks will be administered by the Sussex County Office of Public Health Nursing.  One family in attendance will be randomly selected to receive a $100 gift card towards the purchase of groceries.  Pizza will be provided for all attendees.  The Family Health Expo is free and open to the public.

Learn How to Prevent Child Sexual Assault

Teens and adults are invited to learn about the prevention of child sexual assault at a free online training session offered Wednesday, April 19th, 3:00 p.m.  The workshop is offered via Zoom by the Enough Abuse Campaign, a cooperative effort of Prevent Child Abuse New Jersey, Project Self-Sufficiency and the Sussex Warren Partnership to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse.  The community-wide education initiative aims to mobilize adults and communities to prevent child sexual assault by increasing awareness of safe practices for potential victims.  Educators are particularly interested in training middle and high school youth, their parents, teachers, administrators, coaches, and other youth-serving professionals on how to recognize and prevent child sexual abuse.  Participation is free and open to anyone interested in stemming the tide of child sexual assault; call Project Self-Sufficiency, 973-940-3500, for log-in details.

Learn about Divorce at a Free Seminar

Project Self-Sufficiency will host a free, virtual Family Law seminar featuring attorney Mariann Murphy on Thursday, April 20th, 7:00 p.m.  Participants will discuss child support, grounds for divorce, court procedures, alimony, parenting time, equitable distribution of assets, and other topics related to divorce.  The presentation, which will be offered through Zoom, is free and open to the public; interested attendees should call Project Self-Sufficiency, 973-940-3500, for log-in details.  The agency’s legal seminar series is a program of the Journey Family Success Center at Project Self-Sufficiency and is funded by the New Jersey Department of Children & Families.
